Advanced Placement Chemistry
Description:
Resources:
This course is the equivalent of a first-year university chemistry course and is designed to help prepare students to successfully sit for the AP Chemistry exam. Although lab work is practically impossible, study of written experiments, use of video and/or lab simulations, and attempts at simple labs and demonstrations using common household materials will aid in the learning process.
Units covered:
- Equations & Stoichiometry
- The Atom
- Molecules
- Intermolecular Forces
- Solutions & Colloids
- Solutions & Equilibrium
- Acid/Base Equilibria
- More on Equilibrium
- Electrochemistry I
- Electrochemistry II
- Chemical Kinetics
- Intro to Organic Chemistry
- Functional Groups in Organic Chem
- Nuclear Chemistry
The AP exam is optional and so the cost for the exam is not included. Students will receive 4 Grade 12 level credits for this course. Also, because of the exam time line and course intensity, this course must be taken linearly, finishing in May.
Resources:
- Advanced Chemistry in Creation, 2001, Dr. J. Wile
- The student text contains all student material, on-your-own questions and solutions, laboratory exercises, and review questions and practice problems. Black and White illustrations and diagrams.
